Independent Living Developments are designed for independent living but by the very nature of time some residents’ health and mobility will deteriorate and their personal circumstances may change.

Care at Home is now of a much better standard than a decade ago and it is now quite common for people to be able to stay in their own apartment with visiting carers or sometimes live- in care when appropriate.

Whilst Grange Services is not able to deliver hands on care directly we are able to advise and help pre-empt certain situations evolving by suggestions of adaptation to the apartment by means of grab rails, seats in showers , suction mats, commodes by beds etc.

Informal meetings are available to discuss pre-emptive care strategies regarding urinary tract infections, diabetes, falls, continence etc.

We can advise on the recommended Care Agencies and sometimes promote certain personally known carers qualified to NVQ 2.
We can have an optional agreement for residents to sign allowing the on duty staff when appropriate to call on a ‘companion’ to sit and be of comfort to a resident should they be waiting for an ambulance, unwell or a relative is unable to come. This service is at the resident’s expense and whilst all efforts will be made to find a companion it is not guaranteed.
Where there is a preference to move to a Care Home we can also advice on the differences between Nursing and Residential Homes in our area.
